Picks PhotoWelcome to Brenna's Picks. I like to keep an ongoing list of things that help my life run smoothly. What are yours?

1. Toothpicks. No kidding. I love Doctor’s BrushPicks™. I use them often, especially after eating spinach (since my friends will let me go all day with a leafy smile). Just wait until one of my buddies eats a blueberry muffin. The dialogue will be like this: Suzy: “Anything in my teeth.” Me: “Nope, don’t see a thing!” ….other than black seeds on the right incisor, front left molar and the bottom lip.

2. Books. I love books! I usually have about three going at once. One at my bedside, one near the toilet and one in my purse. The book closest to the toilet gets read first. Says a lot about my daily fiber intake. My recent favorites are Same Kind of Different As Me by Denver Moore and Ron Hall, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. My all-time favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

3. Invisalign™ braces. My lower teeth started to “crowd” around age 39 (among other things that have shifted). After using Invisalign™, my teeth are perfectly straight. Kind of like Spanx™ for the mouth.

4. Blackberry Storm™. I’m glad President Obama was able to keep his. Understand that the Blackberry is necessary for living. Right up there with food, water, oxygen, and Cold Stone Creamery.

5. Cold Stone Creamery. I long for the Cake Batter flavored ice cream with cookie dough mixed in. Don’t talk to me when I’m eating it. I won’t answer. I do have a request of Cold Stone Inc. Please stop posting the nutritional information about your products at the register. I want to stay in complete denial of my saturated fat and carb intake.

6. The Colbert Report. Stephen Colbert has brilliant timing and the sharpest wit around. I love his satire and I love him. Really, I love him. A must-see program that airs on Comedy Central, 7:30 pm weeknights.

7. Green Tea. Actually, I don’t really like it. Webmaster, take this off of my list immediately!

8. Nikon D40X camera. This camera is amazing. It is a digital SLR with 10 megapixels. The techno jargon is meaningless to me but it takes fabulous photographs of professional quality. Just press a button and voila!. I think there are little gnomes in there.

9. Movies. I am a movie critic at heart but I don’t get to see adult movies very often. Hey, that didn’t sound very good, huh? What I meant to say was "grown-up" movies, not adult movies. My recent favorites are: Yes Man with Jim Carrey and Slumdog Millionaire. My favorite all-time movies are Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, Forrest Gump, Dumb and Dumber, Dodgeball and pretty much anything with Will Ferrell or Steve Carrell or Clint Eastwood.

10. Facebook. I was reluctant to join Facebook because I didn’t think anyone over 25 was a member. However, I’ve reconnected with many friends all over the country. Because of the “Add a Friend” feature, I feel like an eighth-grader at times.

11. HazelMail.com. A cool website that allows you to create postcards and mail them at the touch of a button. It’s easy to use, very affordable and a great way to stay in touch. Best $1.50 I've spent in a long time.

12. Community Coffee. If you are from Louisiana, enough said. If you are not from Louisiana, get on a plane to New Orleans, pronto.

13. Crocs. The perfect shoe for children. Easy on, easy off. However, I do not own a pair because they make my feet look wide and huge. I'm trying to get away from the "wide and huge" look. Have been my whole life!

14. Gold Peak Diet Iced Tea. Tastes just like my grandmother's sweet tea. Refreshing, caffeinated, and zero calories. The perfect beverage.

15. Dr. Christiane Northrup's website. Dr. Northrup's books have resonated with me for years. Her books are well worn in my house and referenced often. From childbirth, hormones, nutrition, alternative health care, spirituality, and women's physiology, her books are a must for all women to read.  She is a world renowned physician, bestselling author, and a really nice lady. She is a true leader in women's healthcare.

16. Shout Color-Catchers. Need to wash whites with darks? Add a color-catcher sheet to the wash load and it will pick up any dyes floating around. Works like a magnet. My sorting days are over! Well, for laundry that is.
